Manchester United produced a stunning second-half comeback to beat Roma 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, ending a nine-game winless run and easing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

Roma seized control early on when Matias Soule opened the scoring in the 11th minute, and Donyell Malen doubled the lead from the penalty spot seven minutes later. The home crowd grew restless, with some fans expressing frustration by releasing green and gold balloons and throwing tennis balls onto the pitch in the first half.

United began their fightback in the 58th minute when captain Bruno Fernandes scored a retaken penalty after his initial effort was saved. Matheus Cunha then turned the game on its head, equalising in the 83rd minute before scoring the winner just three minutes later, sparking jubilant scenes at Old Trafford.

Cunha's eventful night ended prematurely, however. After removing his shirt and jumping into the stands to celebrate the winner, he was booked, and then received a second yellow card for a late challenge in stoppage time. Despite finishing with ten men, United held on for a vital victory.

The win was United's first in 54 days and provided a much-needed boost for Carrick, whose position had come under scrutiny during the poor run. Speaking after the match, Carrick said he was proud of his players and praised their character in a tough situation. Fernandes added that the club and players needed the win, and expressed hope it would be the start of something good.

The result moves United up the Champions League table and gives them momentum heading into their next fixtures, with fans across the Gulf and beyond closely following the club's fortunes.
