Oman’s new Ambassador to Somalia has officially begun his duties, presenting his credentials to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in a ceremony this week.
Salim bin Habib al Omairi conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Somali President, along with wishes of abundant health and happiness for the President and continued stability and prosperity for the Somali people, according to the Oman News Agency.
President Mohamud responded warmly, asking the ambassador to convey his greetings and best wishes to Sultan Haitham and the Omani people, with hopes for continued progress and prosperity. He also wished the new ambassador success in his role and expressed optimism for further development of the fraternal relations between the two countries.
The accreditation marks a new chapter in Oman–Somalia ties, which have historically been friendly. The Sultanate has long played a quiet diplomatic role in the Horn of Africa and maintains cordial relations across the region.
Ambassador al Omairi’s appointment reflects Oman’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and people-to-people links with Somalia, particularly in trade, education and humanitarian support.
